The co-creative project explores current sociopolitical issues in Europe, with a focus on marginalized regions such as Southeast and Eastern Europe. Places like Sarajevo, the project’s first stop, exemplify cultural diversity and geopolitical “semi-peripheries” that are often overlooked in established exhibition contexts. EVROVIZION is an open, dynamic format that evolves at each location through collaboration with local art scenes and the inclusion of new artistic positions. The exhibition brings together diverse stories that interweave into a shared narrative.

The co-creative exhibition project explores the current social and political climate in Europe and the idea of a European identity. The focus is on less visible and marginalised geopolitical and cultural spaces, in particular in southeast and eastern Europe. These are so-called semi-peripheries and places of diversity that often play only a minor role in many international theoretical discourses and exhibition practices, such as the multi-ethnic city of Sarajevo – the first venue of the project.
In close cooperation with regional protagonists and each local art scene, new artistic projects will be added to the exhibition during the course of its tour. The aim is to reflect on contemporary social and political challenges, and to make specific local impulses visible in order to generate the continuous and flowing development of dialogue spaces. The exhibition title EVROVIZION is a construct made of similar and yet still different languages – Eurovisione / Evrovizija / Евровизия – a fusion of potential unities; a free version of potential togetherness.
The exhibition can be viewed as a collection of diverse (hi)stories that are all autonomous and yet are deeply interwoven and together form a whole narrative. More stories will be added to this collection during the tour. The touring library, the homepage and also the project magazines were all created with the aim of expanding the stories, and showing that this is all a work in progress – a process. The MAGAZINE PRE-ISSUE, for example, initially only contains information about the start of this journey. In each city of the tour, further magazines will be produced (EVROVIZION.CROSSING SARAJEVO, EVROVIZION.CROSSING NOVI SAD etc.), which will be created together with local journalists and will relate to current events at each venue. In the end we will have a collection of different magazines, an “archive of the journey”.
